Magnificent and unusually tall 19th century Italian gilt wood throne with deep elaborate carvings upholstered in rich red velvet, surmounted by a green man face, flanked to the shoulders by an elaborate scrollwork and foliage, framing a shield intended for coat of arms, the shaped back on scrolling acanthus arm supports, the seat on a simple apron adorned with a winged Gargoyle face on scroll legs, each joined by an X-shaped stretcher (possibly a later replacement).

Condition: the gesso is worn throughout with patches of gold paint applied directly over old gilding, fine upholstery, carving appears to be intact, base of the feet worn, antique - solid structure
